Carbonate sedimentology: An evolved discipline

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Although admired and examined since antiquity, carbonate sediment and rock research really began with Charles Darwin who, during a discovery phase, studied, documented and interpreted their nature in the mid‐19th century. The modern discipline, however, really began after World War II and evolved in two distinct phases.

Dynamic Ultrasound Imaging of Extensor Pollicis Brevis Hypertrophy in Proximal Intersection Syndrome: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
Dynamic ultrasound revealed extensor pollicis brevis hypertrophy displacing second compartment tendons, suggesting a novel friction‐based mechanism for proximal intersection syndrome. This case highlights the role of dynamic sonography in identifying motion‐dependent tendon interactions underlying overuse‐related wrist pain.

Clinical and functional outcome of open primary repair of triangular fibrocartilage complex tears associated with distal radius fractures

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2017
Purpose: We evaluate the clinical and functional outcome of open primary repair of acute TFCC tears in distal radius fracture, when there is gross intraoperative distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability after fixation of the distal radius, in the ...

Radiographer Preliminary Image Evaluation Accuracy in Interpreting Paediatric Trauma Radiographs

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
Radiographer preliminary image evaluation (PIE) is a patient safety mechanism where radiographers provide a written comment describing potential pathology in radiographs they have acquired. This can assist emergency referrers in making a diagnosis when a radiologist's report is unavailable.

Unrestricted kinematic alignment on the sagittal plane: Posterior tibial slope and combined flexion do not have boundaries to respect in terms of short‐term clinical outcomes and safety

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Personalized alignment in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is gaining traction as a surgical philosophy. True personalization, however, must encompass not only the coronal plane but also the sagittal and axial planes. This study evaluates influence of the Tibial Slope (PTS) and combined flexion (CF) on outcomes in TKA performed using ...

A new method to predict the outcome of the volar locked plate treatment for distal radius fracture

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2019
Background Volar locked plate for distal radius fracture is one of the common procedures performed in trauma surgery. There are already some factors which can be used to predict the functional outcome after volar locked plating for distal radius fracture.

Siege and Conquest. Zooarchaeological Analysis of a Sealed Dump in the Luque Castle (Córdoba, Spain)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The archaeological excavations undertaken in the Castle of Luque (Córdoba, Spain) in 2007 and 2008 resulted in the identification of a rubbish dump dated to the immediate aftermath of the Castilian conquest (ad 1243), which included material from the previous period of Almohad domination (mid‐12th to mid‐13th centuries).
