Comparing evolutionary distances via adaptive distance functions
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2018Distance-based methods for phylogenetic reconstruction are based on a two-step approach: first, pairwise distances are computed from DNA sequences associated with a given set of taxa, and then these distances are used to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships between taxa.

Generalized distance functions
Proceedings Shape Modeling International '99. International Conference on Shape Modeling and Applications, 1999We obtain a generalized version of the well-known distance function family L/sub p/ norm. We prove that the new functions satisfy distance function properties. By using these functions, convex symmetric shapes can be described as loci, the set of points which are in equal distance from a given point.

Distance functions and statistics
Journal of Geometry and Physics, 2003On a Riemannian manifold \((M, g)\) the class of \(R^\infty\) distance functions associated with the metric tensor \(g\) is considered. It is shown that the standard Riemannian distance function gives an upper bound for this class. Then, the paper studies the approximation of a sequence of points, \(p_1, \ldots, p_m\), on \(M\) by points \(\gamma_v(t_1)

Distance constancy: Functional relationships between apparent distance and physical distance
Psychologische Forschung, 1971Distance constancy was clearly defined with Thouless and Brunswik indexes by examining its previous definitions. The typical functions expressing the relationships between apparent distance and physical distance were derived from; 1. much available data obtained by many researchers, 2. Thouless and Brunswik indexes (formulas), 3.

Functional similarities and distance properties
Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 2009The analysis of functional and effective brain connectivity forms an important tool for unraveling structure-function relationships from neurophysiological data. It has clinical applications, supports the formulation of hypotheses regarding the role and localization of functional processes, and is often an initial step in modeling.
