Dis-function: Learning distance functions interactively [PDF]

open access: yes2012 IEEE Conference on Visual Analytics Science and Technology (VAST), 2012
The world's corpora of data grow in size and complexity every day, making it increasingly difficult for experts to make sense out of their data. Although machine learning offers algorithms for finding patterns in data automatically, they often require algorithm-specific parameters, such as an appropriate distance function, which are outside the purview

Developmental Disorders in Children Recently Diagnosed With Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Neurocognitive deficits in adult survivors of childhood cancer are well established, but less is known about developmental disorders (DD) arising shortly after cancer diagnosis. Using 2016–2019 linked Ohio cancer registry and Medicaid data, we compared DD among 324 children with cancer and 606,913 cancer‐free controls.

Mesh segmentation guided by seed points

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2015
Segmenting 3D models into meaningful parts is a fundamental problem in computer graphics. In this paper, we present an algorithm which is guided by the mesh vertices for segmenting a mesh into meaningful sub-meshes.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Metric on the space of systems behavior functions represented by fuzzy measures [PDF]

open access: yesYugoslav Journal of Operations Research
G. Klir proposed to describe the behavior of complex systems using behavior functions (BFs) - invariant constraints on the set of system states. BFs are one of the most productive tools for studying the functioning of systems.

The Edit Distance Function of Some Graphs

open access: yesDiscussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory, 2020
The edit distance function of a hereditary property 𝒣 is the asymptotically largest edit distance between a graph of density p ∈ [0, 1] and 𝒣. Denote by Pn and Cn the path graph of order n and the cycle graph of order n, respectively. Let C2n*C_{2n}^* be

A left and right truncated Schechter luminosity function for quasars

open access: yes, 2017
The luminosity function for quasars (QSOs) is usually fitted by a Schechter function. The dependence of the number of quasars on the redshift, both in the low and high luminosity regions, requires the inclusion of a lower and upper boundary in the ...

Crooked Functions, Bent Functions, and Distance Regular Graphs [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 1998
Let $V$ and $W$ be $n$-dimensional vector spaces over $GF(2)$. A mapping $Q:V\rightarrow W$ is called crooked if it satisfies the following three properties: $Q(0)=0$; $Q(x)+Q(y)+Q(z)+Q(x+y+z)\neq 0$ for any three distinct $x,y,z$; $Q(x)+Q(y)+Q(z)+Q(x+a)+Q(y+a)+Q(z+a)\neq 0$ if $a\neq 0$ ($x,y,z$ arbitrary).

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.
