Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Distance and Measurement in Domain Theory

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Theoretical Computer Science, 2001
AbstractWe investigate the notion of distance on domains. In particular, we show that measurement is a fundamental concept underlying partial metrics by proving that a domain in its Scott topology is partially metrizable only if it admits a measurement.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

One-Way Ranging for LoRa: A Chirp-Based Estimation Approach

open access: yesFuture Internet
Many Internet of Things (IoT) applications that use LoRaWAN require node localization, often relying on signal strength or message timestamps to estimate distance.

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Distance Measurement Between a Camera and a Human Subject Using Statistically Determined Interpupillary Distance

open access: yesAppliedMath
This paper presents a non-intrusive method for estimating the distance between a camera and a human subject using a monocular vision system and statistically derived interpupillary distance (IPD) values.

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...
