Distance to M87 as the Mode of the Modulus Distribution

open access: diamondAstronomy
de Grijs and Bono (ApJS 2020, 246, 3) compiled a list of distances to M87 from the literature published in the last 100 years. They reported the arithmetic mean of the three most stable tracers (Cepheids, tip of the red giant branch, and surface ...

The Near-IR TRGB Magnitude and Distance Modulus to NGC 185 [PDF]

open access: goldJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2008
We determined values of distance modulus to nearby dwarf galaxy NGC 185 from the Tip of Red-Giant Branch (TRGB) method. Apparent magnitudes of the TRGB are estimated from the near-infrared JHK luminosity functions (LFs) of the resolved giant branch stars.

Near-IR TRGB Distance Modulus of Dwarf Irregular Galaxy IC 1613 [PDF]

open access: goldJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2009
The JHKs magnitudes of the red giant branch tip (TRGB) and the distance moduli of the nearby dwarf irregular galaxy IC 1613 have been determined from the nearinfrared luminosity functions (LFs) of the resolved stars in the galaxy.

Absolute Dimensions and Distance Modulus for HV 2226 in the SMC [PDF]

open access: bronzeSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1992
Absolute dimensions and the distance modulus have been established for the early-type eclipsing binary HV 2226 in the SMC. Analyses of the new radial velocities reported here, and CCD light curves published by Jensen et al. (1988) yield component masses of 9.3 ± 0.7 and 5.6 ± 0.5 M⊙, respectively.

Neural network reconstructions for the Hubble parameter, growth rate and distance modulus [PDF]

open access: greenSSRN Electronic Journal, 2021
AbstractThis paper introduces a new approach to reconstruct cosmological functions using artificial neural networks based on observational measurements with minimal theoretical and statistical assumptions. By using neural networks, we can generate computational models of observational datasets, and then we compare them with the original ones to verify ...

On the Distance Modulus of the Large Magellanic Cloud [PDF]

open access: bronzePublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1980
The corrected modulus = 18.31 ± 0.15 (external m.e.) previously derived from five independent primary distance indicators is confirmed by nine different secondary and tertiary indicators which give = 18.20 ± 0.10 (internal mean error) on the same system of zero points and extinction corrections.

The Distance Modulus of LMC [PDF]

open access: bronzeSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1986
Deep CCD photometry of the star clusters NGC2162 and NGC2190 in LMC presented by Schommer et al. (1984) is used togheter with new evolutionary models computed by Bertelli et al. (1985a) which take into account overshooting from convective cores, to derive the clusters ages and the distance modulus of LMC.

Direct evidence of acceleration from a distance modulus–redshift graph [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2007
The energy conditions give upper bounds on the luminosity distance. We apply these upper bounds to the 192 essence supernova Ia data to show that the Universe had experienced accelerated expansion. This conclusion is drawn directly from the distance modulus-reshift graph.
