Inverse Estimation Method of Material Randomness Using Observation
This study proposes a method for inversely estimating the spatial distribution characteristic of a material’s elastic modulus using the measured value of the observation data and the distance between the measurement points.

Asteroseismic Study on Cluster Distance Moduli for RGB Stars in NGC 6791 and NGC 6819 [PDF]
Stellar distance is an important basic parameter in stellar astrophysics. Stars in a cluster are thought to be formed coevally from the same interstellar cloud of gas and dust. They are therefore expected to have common properties. These common properties strengthen our ability to constrain theoretical models and/or to determine fundamental parameters,

The Araucaria Project. Near-Infrared Photometry of Cepheid Variables in the Sculptor Galaxy NGC 55
We have obtained deep images in the near-infrared J and K filters of four fields in the Sculptor Group spiral galaxy NGC 55 with the ESO VLT and ISAAC camera. For 40 long-period Cepheid variables in these fields which were recently discovered by Pietrzy{\

The $k$-resultant modulus set problem on algebraic varieties over finite fields [PDF]
We study the $k$-resultant modulus set problem in the $d$-dimensional vector space $\mathbb F_q^d$ over the finite field $\mathbb F_q$ with $q$ elements. Given $E\subset \mathbb F_q^d$ and an integer $k\ge 2$, the $k$-resultant modulus set, denoted by $\Delta_k(E)$, is defined as $$ \Delta_k(E)=\{\|x^1\pm x^2 \pm \cdots \pm x^k\|\in \mathbb F_q: x^j\in

Dynamic Properties of Human Bronchial Airway Tissues [PDF]
Young's Modulus and dynamic force moduli were measured on human bronchial airway tissues by compression. A simple and low-cost system for measuring the tensile-strengh of soft bio-materials has been built for this study. The force-distance measurements were undertaken on the dissected bronchial airway walls, cartilages and mucosa from the surgery ...

On Error Bound Moduli for Locally Lipschitz and Regular Functions [PDF]
In this paper we study local error bound moduli for a locally Lipschitz and regular function via its outer limiting subdifferential set. We show that the distance of 0 from the outer limiting subdifferential of the support function of the subdifferential set, which is essentially the distance of 0 from the end set of the subdifferential set, is an ...

We present a distance determination to the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) using optical and near-infrared photometry from OGLE and IRSF. Applying a multiband method to V, I, J, H and K OGLE and IRSF data, we measured the SMC true distance modulus and mean ...

The distance to the Sgr dwarf spheroidal galaxy from the Red Giant Branch Tip
We derived the distance to the central region of the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy from the Red Giant Branch Tip. The obtained distance modulus is $(m-M)_0=17.10\pm0.15$, corresponding to a heliocentric distance $D=26.30\pm1.8$ Kpc.
