Abstract Relations between bulk modulus and interatomic distance were empirically determined for five groups of elemental substances by using power functional forms, B = Cd − m , where m and C are the constants. The power value for sp 3 -bonded elemental substances was determined to be −3.60 and the value is quite close to the one (=−3.5 ...

The interstellar extinction and distance modulus to M10 from infrared photometry [PDF]
From a new infrared photometry of the globular cluster M10 its interstellar extinction and distance modulus are discussed. This is done by comparison with the well-studied clusters M3, M13, and M92. Final values ofE(B-V)=0.17±0.05 and (M v-V)=14.0±0.3 are proposed. The dependence on metallicity of these values is briefly discussed.

We present new DMT‐based and JKR‐based methods to derive the elastic modulus of sample surfaces from an atomic force microscope force‐distance curve (DMT: Derjaguin‐Muller‐Toporov, JKR: Johnson–Kendall–Roberts).

The bulk modulus KT can be related to structural parameters and to the sum of the squares of the vibrational frequencies. ∑vi2, for N-atom crystals of cubic symmetry or for any symmetry that contains only one nearest-neighbor distance.

Interpretation of Hardness in Pseudobinary Nitrides by Bulk Modulus Estimated from Interatomic Distance [PDF]
Hardness of the pseudobinary transition metal aluminum nitride (T-Al-N) films is improved with increasing the AlN content as far as the B1structure is maintained. A drastic change in the compositional dependence of the hardness corresponds to the phase change of the pseudobinary nitride from B1(NaCl) to B4(wurtzite) structure.
