Matrigel inhibits elongation and drives endoderm differentiation in aggregates of mouse embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.

The Distance to the M31 Globular Cluster System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The distance to the centroid of the M31 globular cluster system is determined by fitting theoretical isochrones to the observed red-giant branches of fourteen globular clusters in M31. The mean true distance modulus of the M31 globular clusters is found to be 24.47 +/- 0.07 mag.

Performance Improvement of Raman Distributed Temperature System by Using Noise Suppression

open access: yesPhotonic Sensors, 2017
In Raman distributed temperature system, the key factor for performance improvement is noise suppression, which seriously affects the sensing distance and temperature accuracy. Therefore, we propose and experimentally demonstrate dynamic noise difference

Overburden and surface subsidence with slicing paste filling mining in thick coal seams

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
To overcome the difficulties of overburden failure and surface subsidence induced by the slicing mining of extra-thick coal seams, slicing filler paste is typically utilized.

The Araucaria Project: Distance to the Local Group Galaxy NGC 3109 from Near-Infrared Photometry of Cepheids [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J. 648 (2006) 375-382, 2006
We present near-infrared J- and K-band photometry of 77 Cepheid variables in the Local Group galaxy NGC 3109. Combining our data with the previously published optical V- and I-band photometry of Cepheids in this galaxy we derive an accurate distance and interstellar reddening to NGC 3109. Adopting a distance modulus of 18.5 mag for the Large Magellanic

Cepheids and Long Period Variables in NGC 4395 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Repeated imaging observations of NGC 4395 were made with the WIYN 3.5 m and the KPNO 2.1 m telescopes. From the photometry of the resolved brighter stars in this galaxy eleven Cepheids with periods ranging between 12 and 90 days have been identified. The true distance modulus has been derived from the apparent distance moduli in g, r and i.

An Accuracy Problem of the Fwd Time History with Regard to the Application of the Sasw Method

open access: yesCivil and Environmental Engineering, 2017
A Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) represents one group of the devices used for diagnostics of pavement bearing capacity. Usually, the FWD dynamic load is substituted by a static load in the evaluation process to determine the equivalent modulus of a ...

The problem of the Pleiades distance. Constraints from Stromgren photometry of nearby field stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The discrepancy between the Pleiades cluster distance based on Hipparcos parallaxes and main sequence fitting is investigated on the basis of Stromgren photometry of F-type stars. Field stars with the same metallicity as the Pleiades have been selected from the m1 index and a technique has been developed to locate the ZAMS of these field stars in color-
