The Development and Validation of the Distance Doctoral Program Integration Scale
Research indicates academic integration and social integration are predictors of doctoral student persistence at any program stage. However, researchers have not defined, operationalized, and measured academic or social integration consistently. Further,

The extragalactic distance scale. VIII - A comparison of distance scales
Some 300 recent determinations of the distances to 12 nearby galaxies, one group, and three clusters by various authors using a variety of independent new methods are compared with the long and short extragalactic distance scales. All comparisons show that there is close agreement (within 0.3 mag in the distance modulus DM) betweeen the short-scale ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Pulsating stars and the distance scale
I present an overview of the latest results from the SH0ES project, which obtained homogeneous Hubble Space Telescope (HST) photometry in the optical and near-infrared for ∼ 3500 and ∼ 2300 Cepheids, respectively, across 19 supernova hosts and 4 ...

Weighted Distances in Scale-Free Configuration Models [PDF]
In this paper we study first-passage percolation in the configuration model with empirical degree distribution that follows a power-law with exponent $ \in (2,3)$. We assign independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.)\ weights to the edges of the graph.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

An Analysis of Variance of the Pantheon+ Dataset: Systematics in the Covariance Matrix?
We investigate the statistics of the available Pantheon+ dataset. Noticing that the χ2 value for the best-fit ΛCDM model to the real data is small, we quantify how significant its smallness is by calculating the distribution of χ2 values for the best-fit

THE EXTRAGALACTIC DISTANCE SCALE WITHOUT CEPHEIDS. III. [PDF]
Distances of galaxies in the Hubble Space Telescope Key Project are based on the Cepheid period-luminosity relation. An alternative basis is the tip of the red giant branch. Using archival HST data, we calibrate the infrared Tully-Fisher relation using 14 galaxies with tip of the red giant branch measurements.
