Distant hybridization leads to different ploidy fishes
Science China Life Sciences, 2010Distant hybridization makes it possible to transfer the genome of one species to another, which results in changes in phenotypes and genotypes of the progenies. This study shows that distant hybridization or the combination of this method with gynogenesis or androgenesis lead to different ploidy fishes with genetic variation, including fertile ...

Distant hybridization, which can shatter species boundaries, boost genetic diversity, and blend the biological traits of existing species, refers to crossings between two distinct species, genera, or higher-ranking taxa. It is a crucial method for developing genetic diversity, viable strains, and superior traits in new strains and populations.

A comparative study of distant hybridization in plants and animals
Science China Life Sciences, 2017Distant hybridization refers to crosses between two different species, genera, or higher-ranking taxa, which can break species limits, increase genetic variation, and combine the biological characteristics of existing species. It is an important way of creating genetic variation, fertile strains, and excellent characteristics in new strains and ...

Introductory Considerations on Distant Hybridization
1992Wild species are products of natural evolution in centers of diversity. They are not manipulated or used by man. Evolution is brought about by the interaction of both abiotic (physical and chemical) and biotic (living organisms, mainly pests and diseases) factors with genetically variable plant populations.

DISTANT HYBRIDS AND THEIR VERIFICATION BY MEANS OF RAPD
Acta Horticulturae, 2005In Poland, apart from Oriental lilies, Lilium longiflorum and its Asiatic hybrids, have become very popular. As a result of interspecific and intergroup hybridization, progeny plants may not always be hybrids. Embryos may be formed via apomixis and such seedlings contain the genetic material of the maternal form.

Distant Hybrids from Parents with Reduced Immunological Reactivity
Nature, 1958IF they hatch out at all, there is usually a high incidence of malformation in hybrids between guinea fowl hens and domestic fowl cocks1–3. Adult hybrids have been described only twice4,5.

Lower‐hybrid‐drift wave turbulence in the distant magnetotail
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1978Recent satellite observations of electrostatic and magnetic noise in the distant magnetotail (Gurnett et al., 1976) can be explained by the excitation of the lower‐hybrid‐drift instability. In particular, it is shown that (1) existence conditions for the lower‐hybrid‐drift instability can be met, (2) the observed frequency spectra and polarization are ...

MOLECULAR MARKERS IN DETECTION OF DISTANT HYBRIDS IN LILIUM
Acta Horticulturae, 2001Plants were obtained by ovule rescue from pollinations of lily cultivars belonging to the group oriental hybrids with pollen of Lilium henryi, L. pumilum and L. x formolongi. In order to develop molecular DNA markers useful for separation of the hybrids all the parental genotypes, resulting seedlings and regenerants were fingerprinted using RAPDs.

Distant Hybridization Involving Different In Vitro Techniques
2013The Brassicaceae family has extensive genetic type and variation, which makes distant hybridization to be a potential strategy for integrating important traits such as quality and resistance to diseases and/or pests into the cultivated species from wild species.
