An Electrowetting Pump

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tubular electrowetting pump moves alternating droplets through a millimeter‐wide channel in discrete, reversible steps, functioning as a fluidic stepper motor. With no moving parts and electrodes insulated from the liquid, it delivers silent, accurate flow. Flexibility allows the pump to be woven directly into textiles for wearable, medical, and soft‐

3D Hydrodynamic Flow Lithography

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Continuous‐ and stop‐flow lithography are widely used to fabricate multi‐dimensional microstructures whose cross‐sectional morphology is dictated by the flow profile of multiple co‐flowing streams. Here, we introduce three‐dimensional hydrodynamic flow lithography (3D HFL), a platform for programmable generation of multi‐layered flow profiles ...

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Confinement‐Engineered Thermally Programmed Ion‐Gating Separator for Decoupling Thermal–Electrochemical Feedback in High‐Energy Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new phase‐change material encapsulated membrane offers more thermal resilience stability and safety than the conventional separators for batteries. ABSTRACT Thermal runaway in lithium‐ion batteries arises from the intrinsic coupling between heat generation and ion transport, yet conventional shutdown separators primarily rely on passive pore collapse

Roll‐to‐Roll Processable EC/TC Hybrid Smart Windows Driven by a Bidirectional Dual‐Chromic Polymer Electrolyte

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable EC/TC hybrid smart window using a DCPE that enables tunable solar modulation (ΔTsol:15–43%), fast electrochromic switching (<90 s), and strong thermal blocking (10–14°C reduction). HPMC improves thermal stability, while an optimized ISL enhances EC performance.

Building Distant Supervised Relation Extractors

2014 IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing, 2014
A well-known drawback in building machine learning semantic relation detectors for natural language is the lack of a large number of qualified training instances for the target relations in multiple languages. Even when good results are achieved, the datasets used by the state-of-the-art approaches are rarely published.

Website replica detection with distant supervision

Information Retrieval Journal, 2017
Duplicate content on the Web occurs within the same website or across multiple websites. The latter is mainly associated with the existence of website replicas—sites that are perceptibly similar. Replication may be accidental, intentional or malicious, but no matter the reason, search engines suffer greatly either from unnecessarily storing and moving ...

Curriculum Learning for Distant Supervision Relation Extraction

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2020
Abstract Relation extraction under distant supervision leverages the existing knowledge base to label data automatically, thus greatly reduced the consumption of human labors. Although distant supervision is an efficient method to obtain a large amount of labeled data, the training dataset labeled by distant supervision suffers from noise problem ...

Global Distant Supervision for Relation Extraction

Proceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2016
Machine learning approaches to relation extraction are typically supervised and require expensive labeled data. To break the bottleneck of labeled data, a promising approach is to exploit easily obtained indirect supervision knowledge – which we usually refer to as distant supervision (DS).
