Paint cost and the frugal distinguishing number

open access: yesThe Art of Discrete and Applied Mathematics, 2022
You are handed a graph with vertices in a neutral color and asked to color a subset of vertices with expensive paints in $d$ colors in such a way that only the trivial symmetry preserves the color classes. Your goal is to minimize the number of vertices needing this expensive paint. This paper address the issues surrounding your choices. In particular,

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Motion and distinguishing number two

open access: yesArs Mathematica Contemporanea, 2011
A group A acting faithfully on a finite set X is said to have distinguishing number two if there is a proper subset Y whose (setwise) stabilizer is trivial. The motion of A acting on X is defined as the largest integer k such that all non-trivial elements of A move at least k elements of X .

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Some Equal Degree Graph Edge Chromatic Number

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
Let G(V, E) be a simple graph and k is a positive integer, if it exists a mapping of f, and satisfied with f(e1)≠6 = f(e2) for two incident edges e1,e2∉E(G), f(e1)≠6=f(e2), then f is called the k-proper-edge coloring of G(k-PEC for short).

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

The role of the number of characters in distinguishing taxa in taxonomic investigations performed by the dendrite method

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2015
The author presents a new conception of distinguishing taxonomic units, while taking into .account a precise class of characters, It is shown on the taxonomy of species of Delia Dum., Spergula L., and Spergularia Presl., growning in Poland and based on ...
