In-car distractions and automated driving
Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Automotive User Interfaces and Interactive Vehicular Applications: Adjunct Proceedings, 2019As vehicles with automated driving features become more common, drivers may become ever more tempted to engage in secondary in-car tasks. We report on the results of a driving simulator study that investigated whether the presence of an in-car video would make drivers more likely to switch on an automated driving system so that they can watch the video.

The Effects of Distraction on Anticipatory Driving

Anticipatory actions (i.e., actions in preparation for a potential upcoming conflict) have been found to be more prevalent among experienced drivers in a driving simulator study where driving was the sole task.

Distracted Driving Performance Measures
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2015This study introduced and applied the signal processing algorithm fast Fourier transform (FFT) to the calculation of vehicle-control variations during distracted driving. This methodology has proved to be useful in extracting behavioral features by converting a signal from the time domain to the frequency domain.
