The Safer Driver App Decreases Mobile Phone Induced Distracted Driving: Evidence From a Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Road Safety
When using a mobile phone while driving, people are more at risk of causing or being in a crash. To address distracted driving behaviours related to mobile phone use, we developed a mobile coaching app, Safer Driver.

Naturalistic Distraction and Driving Safety in Older Drivers [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 2012
Objective: In this study, we aimed to quantify and compare performance of middle-aged and older drivers during a naturalistic distraction paradigm (visual search for roadside targets) and to predict older drivers’ performance given functioning in visual, motor, and cognitive domains.

Distracted driving behavior coordinate point.

open access: yes, 2022
The coordinates of vehicles at the time of distracted driving behavior can be seen in the figure, which is mainly distributed in Shaanxi Province and some surrounding provinces.

Lattice Disorder in CuI Enables Filament‐Free Transparent Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Transparent Cu1‐xAgxI thin‐film memristors rely on internal ion transport to produce reversible resistive‐switching effects. Direct elemental characterizations observe obvious Cu and Ag redistribution driven by applied bias, proving mobile ions drive the device's resistive‐switching responses.

Experimental Studies On Drivers Distractions Investigating the Effects of Distractions on Driving Performance

open access: yes2023 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo, Asia-Pacific (ITEC Asia-Pacific), 2023
Driving hazards encompass a range of factors, such as poor road conditions, weather, and human behavior. They represent a significant threat to the safety of individuals on the road and are very likely one of the leading causes of traffic accidents. These hazards exist alongside well-known risk factors like driving under the influence of drugs, extreme

How risky is distracted driving?

open access: yesJournal of Risk and Uncertainty, 2022
We use data on fatal crashes to quantify the risk of distracted driving. We repurpose, extend, and improve a methodology used to estimate the riskiness of drinking drivers (Levitt & Porter, 2001). Our analysis suggests that distracted drivers are three times more likely to cause a fatal crash than focused drivers.

Strategies Young Adults Use to Curb Distracted Driving [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Distracted driving is a well-established risk for young drivers, as they have disproportionately higher vehicle fatalities relative to miles driven. Although many studies have examined the danger of distracted driving, less is known about countermeasures

Pseudo‐Haptic Feedback: Multi‐Modal Approaches to Stiffness Perception and User Experience

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Can visual deformation substitute for physical haptic feedback? In immersive VR, deformation‐based pseudo‐haptics enables stiffness discrimination comparable to wearable force feedback, while their combination yields the highest performance and presence without increasing workload.

Texting while driving: A study of 1211 U.S. adults with the Distracted Driving Survey

open access: yesPreventive Medicine Reports, 2016
Texting and other cell-phone related distracted driving is estimated to account for thousands of motor vehicle collisions each year but studies examining the specific cell phone reading and writing activities of drivers are limited. The objective of this

Mechanical Distraction Engages a Neuro‐Immune Program to Drive Regenerative Soft‐Tissue Healing in Ilizarov Bone Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ilizarov bone transport accelerates healing of soft‐tissue wounds through unclear mechanisms. In a rat model, sustained mechanical distraction elicits calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP)‐dominant sensory reinnervation, creating a niche that shifts immune cells from inflammatory to repair‐promoting states and speeds re‐epithelialization.
