A Concurrent Perspective on Smart Contracts [PDF]
In this paper, we explore remarkable similarities between multi-transactional behaviors of smart contracts in cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and classical problems of shared-memory concurrency.

At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

A unified concurrency control algorithm for distributed database systems [PDF]
We present a unified concurrency-control algorithm for distributed database systems in which each transaction may choose its own concurrency control protocol.

A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

Design Principles for Scaling Multi-core OLTP Under High Contention
Although significant recent progress has been made in improving the multi-core scalability of high throughput transactional database systems, modern systems still fail to achieve scalable throughput for workloads involving frequent access to highly ...

Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

A Concurrency-Agnostic Protocol for Multi-Paradigm Concurrent Debugging Tools [PDF]
Today's complex software systems combine high-level concurrency models. Each model is used to solve a specific set of problems. Unfortunately, debuggers support only the low-level notions of threads and shared memory, forcing developers to reason about ...

HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Aion: Live Migration for In-Memory Databases with Zero Downtime and Reduced Redundant Data Transfer
Distributed in-memory databases are widely adopted to achieve low latency and high bandwidth for data-intensive applications. They support scale-out by sharding and distributing data across multiple nodes.

Fast Concurrency Control for Distributed Inverted Files [PDF]
A new method for controlling concurrent read/write operations upon inverted files is proposed and evaluated. Communication and synchronization among processors is effected by ways of the bulk-synchronous parallel model of computing. Thanks to the global synchronization property of this model, a simple but very efficient mechanism for synchronizing read/
