Distributed Computing and/or Distributed Database Systems

2020
Distributed computing involves many loosely coupled computing platforms, located in different places connected in a network by using LAN or WAN for achieving a common goal. The computing entities have autonomous behavior of computing different operations by using their own computing power and storage capacity.

Distributed database design methodologies

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1987
This paper surveys methodological approaches for distributed database design. The design of distribution can be performed top-down or bottom-up; the first approach is typical of a distributed database developed from scratch, while the second approach is typical of the development of a multi-database as the aggregation of existing databases.

Application of distributed database systems

International Journal of Bio-Medical Computing, 1985
The state of development of Distributed Database Systems (DDB) is briefly surveyed and a basic taxonomy of the products, prototypes and architectures presented. The applicability of the approach to applications arising in primary medical care networks is assessed by looking in some detail at three particular offerings in this field.

Distributed Databases for Surveying

Journal of Surveying Engineering, 1985
Space related data is gathered in different places and by different services. Considerable duplication of effort to maintain the same data is obvious. The use of a distributed database management system to manage such data collections is proposed. Information and data collection have special characteristics, which must be taken into account.

Distributed database development

Computer Communications, 1988
Abstract Centralized databases have been in large-scale use in the data processing industry since the early 1970s. Distributed databases are very much more sophisticated than centralized databases, and they involve complex software to handle problems such as concurrency control, deadlock prevention and the maintenance of data integrity during multi ...

Database integration in a distributed heterogeneous database system

1986 IEEE Second International Conference on Data Engineering, 1986
This paper describes the approach to database integration in a heterogeneous distributed database environment utilized by the Amoco Distributed Database System (ADDS). We start with the definition of the extended relational data model that is used by ADDS for database integration.

Distributed Database Systems

1996
The 1990s have been portrayed by many as the era of the distributed database system (Ozsu and Valduriez, 1991). We begin this chapter by describing some of the major objectives, advantages, and disadvantages of distributed systems. This leads us to a discussion of some of the major types of distributed database system.

Automating database management for distributed database systems

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1993
The management of large databases can be a time consuming and tedious task without tools to automate the process. In order to facilitata the process, a database design philosophy which is consistent with application objectives must be adopted. The Planetary Plasma Interactions (PPI) Node of the Planetary Data System (PDS) provides users with a software

Distributed Database Using Sharding Database Architecture

2020 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer Science and Data Engineering (CSDE), 2020
This article aims at introducing distributed databases that are becoming increasingly popular. In the distributed database system, we implement sharding for the distribution of vertical and horizontal fragmentation. In today’s business environment there is a growing need for distributed databases and client / server applications as the demand for ...
