A distributional interpretation of robust optimization

2010 48th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2010
Motivated by data-driven decision making and sampling problems, we investigate probabilistic interpretations of robust optimization (RO). We establish a connection between RO and distributionally robust stochastic programming (DRSP), showing that the solution to any RO problem is also a solution to a DRSP problem.

Designing Games for Distributed Optimization

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing, 2011
The central goal in multiagent systems is to design local control laws for the individual agents to ensure that the emergent global behavior is desirable with respect to a given system level objective. Ideally, a system designer seeks to satisfy this goal while conditioning each agent's control law on the least amount of information possible ...

Approximations in Distributed Optimization

2005
We present a parameterized approximation scheme for distributed combinatorial optimization problems based on dynamic programming. The algorithm is a utility propagation method and requires a linear number of messages. For exact computation, the size of the largest message is exponential in the width of the constraint graph.

Transition-optimal Token Distribution

Fundamenta Informaticae, 1997
There is given a graph, that models a communication network of a multiprocessor system, and there are tokens (jobs) allocated to nodes of the graph. The task is to distribute the tokens evenly, subject to the constraint that they may be moved only along the edges of the graph.

Toward Optimally Distributed Computation

Neural Computation, 1998
This article introduces the concept of optimally distributed computation in feedforward neural networks via regularization of weight saliency. By constraining the relative importance of the parameters, computation can be distributed thinly and evenly throughout the network.

Distributed coordination in optimization algorithms

1997
In this paper we present a parallel algorithm for the solution of discrete optimization problems, which is a typical example of highly irregularly structured problems.

Optimal Distributed Generation placement in distribution network

2014 IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON), 2014
Abstract— this paper presents a method for optimal Distributed Generation placement with goal of reducing active power system losses and voltage level regulation. Active power losses in radial distribution network are determined using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) by simultaneous formulation for the determination process based on voltage level ...

On the optimality of localized distributed controllers

Proceedings of the 2005, American Control Conference, 2005., 2005
Design of optimal distributed controllers with a priori assigned localisation constraints is a difficult problem. Alternatively, one can ask the following question: given a localised distributed exponentially stabilising controller, is it inversely optimal with respect to some cost functional?
