Determining Distribution System Storage Needs

Opflow, 2005
This article discusses how to determine distribution system storage needs. Topics covered include: adequate fire protection volume; peak‐hour demand; oversized pumping stations and/or transmission mains; reduced rates for communities that purchase wholesale water; regulations; functional design considerations; equalization volume; emergency storage ...

On adaptive distributed storage systems

2015 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2015
In a distributed storage system (DSS), high data reliability is obtained by dispersing the data over a number of nodes over a network. In an (n, k) erasure code based DSS, a data file is first divided into k packets and then these k packets are encoded into n packets using an MDS code, and finally these n packets are distributed over n nodes so that ...

Storage-Repair Tradeoff for Hierarchical Distributed Storage Systems

2019 IEEE SmartWorld, Ubiquitous Intelligence & Computing, Advanced & Trusted Computing, Scalable Computing & Communications, Cloud & Big Data Computing, Internet of People and Smart City Innovation (SmartWorld/SCALCOM/UIC/ATC/CBDCom/IOP/SCI), 2019
Real-world distributed storage systems (DSS) such as modern data centers are hierarchical in nature, in which storage nodes are organized in different racks and connected by a network. In such a hierarchical DSS, we focus on establishing the fundamental tradeoff between storage capacity and repair bandwidth.

Secrecy capacity of heterogeneous distributed storage systems

2014 6th International Symposium on Communications, Control and Signal Processing (ISCCSP), 2014
The capacity and secrecy capacity of heterogeneous distributed storage systems under repair dynamics are studied. Capacity bounds are given depending on the average resources per node. One implication of these results is that symmetric repair maximizes the capacity of a homogeneous system.

Optimal storage and repair in distributed storage system

2017 7th International Conference on Cloud Computing, Data Science & Engineering - Confluence, 2017
The distributed storage system maintains the data at multiple nodes in the network to provide faster access to data. In case of failure of one node the data is made available to the users from other nodes and the lost data can be recovered from the surviving nodes. Network coding plays an important role in managing the distributed data.

Information dependability in distributed systems: The dependable distributed storage system

Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering, 2014
In distributed infrastructures data are usually scattered among different nodes and thus accessible by several users. It is therefore necessary to provide mechanisms and tools for managing the information, ensuring the access exclusively to authorized users avoiding malicious ones. Furthermore, satisfactory performance and adequate fault tolerance have
