Decentralized Minimum-Cost Repair for Distributed Storage Systems

open access: yes, 2013
There have been emerging lots of applications for distributed storage systems e.g., those in wireless sensor networks or cloud storage. Since storage nodes in wireless sensor networks have limited battery, it is valuable to find a repair scheme with ...

Non-homogeneous distributed storage systems [PDF]

open access: yes2012 50th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2012
This paper describes a non-homogeneous distributed storage systems (DSS), where there is one super node which has a larger storage size and higher reliability and availability than the other storage nodes. We propose three distributed storage schemes based on (k+2; k) maximum distance separable (MDS) codes and non-MDS codes to show the efficiency of ...

Feasibility and Safety of High‐Dose Proton Re‐Irradiation in Recurrent Pediatric Central Nervous System Tumors: A Single‐Institution Retrospective Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors often recur despite multimodality therapy. Although re‐irradiation (re‐RT) has historically been limited by concerns for severe late toxicities, modern techniques have renewed interest in this approach. Proton therapy provides dosimetric advantages that may enable curative re‐treatment with

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sizing Hybrid Energy Storage Systems for Distributed Power Systems under Multi-Time Scales

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
With the rapid development of industry, more fossil energy is consumed to generate electricity, which increases carbon emissions and aggravates the burden of environmental protection.

Effects of energy storage systems grid code requirements on interface protection performances in low voltage networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The ever-growing penetration of local generation in distribution networks and the large diffusion of energy storage systems (ESSs) foreseen in the near future are bound to affect the effectiveness of interface protection systems (IPSs), with negative ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

An approach to buffering data efficiently in distributed storage systems

open access: yes大数据, 2021
To address the problems of write amplification, long I/O path, and high access latency in distributed storage systems, an efficient SSD-based caching approach for distributed storage systems was proposed. This approach adopts read/write bypassing and lazy

GDSP: A Graphical Perspective on the Distributed Storage Systems

open access: yes, 2017
The classical distributed storage problem can be modeled by a k-uniform {\it complete} hyper-graph where vertices represent servers and hyper-edges represent users.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
