ON THE MUTH DISTRIBUTION

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2015
The Muth distribution is a continuous random variable introduced in the context of reliability theory. In this paper, some mathematical properties of the model are derived, including analytical expressions for the moment generating function, moments, mode, quantile function and moments of the order statistics.

Distributional Replication [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
A function which transforms a continuous random variable such that it has a specified distribution is called a replicating function. We suppose that functions may be assigned a price, and study an optimization problem in which the cheapest approximation to a replicating function is sought.

A study on stabilization of operation time for hydraulic operating circuit breaker (Development of hydraulic stabilization system holding constant high pressure)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
A hydraulic operation stabilizing system was developed for a hydraulic operating mechanism of a gas circuit breaker (GCB). Air bubbles and cavities, created in hydraulic fluid by the movement of the operating mechanism, have an effect on the movement of ...

Distributed verification and hardness of distributed approximation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the forty-third annual ACM symposium on Theory of computing, 2011
We study the {\em verification} problem in distributed networks, stated as follows. Let $H$ be a subgraph of a network $G$ where each vertex of $G$ knows which edges incident on it are in $H$. We would like to verify whether $H$ has some properties, e.g., if it is a tree or if it is connected.

An Improved Energy Management Strategy for Hybrid Energy Storage System in Light Rail Vehicles

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
A single-objective optimization energy management strategy (EMS) for an onboard hybrid energy storage system (HESS) for light rail (LR) vehicles is proposed. The HESS uses batteries and supercapacitors (SCs).

Not all screens are created equal: examination of surface features and other physical properties of commonly used screen materials for smoking drugs

open access: yesHarm Reduction Journal, 2023
Background Brass screens are considered an essential part of the safer drug smoking/inhalation supplies and are widely distributed by harm reduction programs in Canada.

Multi-Objective Planning of Distributed Photovoltaic Power Generation Based on Multi-Attribute Decision Making Theory

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Photovoltaic (PV) power generation has been heavily connected into distribution network recently. However, the intermittent and uncertainty of PV generation system will significantly affect the security operation of distribution network.

Methodology to Evaluate the Impact of Electric Vehicles on Electrical Networks Using Monte Carlo

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
In preparation for the electric mobility technological transition in Colombia, an impact assessment of the electric power system is required, considering the increasing loading that must be able to be managed in the future.

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...
