Fitting the Distribution of Linear Combinations of t− Variables with more than 2 Degrees of Freedom

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics, 2023
The linear combination of Student’s t random variables (RVs) appears in many statistical applications. Unfortunately, the Student’s t distribution is not closed under convolution, thus, deriving an exact and general distribution for the linear ...

The evolutionarily stable distribution of fitness effects [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics, 2014
The distribution of fitness effects of new mutations (the DFE) is a key parameter in determining the course of evolution. This fact has motivated extensive efforts to measure the DFE or to predict it from first principles. However, just as the DFE determines the course of evolution, the evolutionary process itself constrains the DFE. Here, we analyze a

Modelling of non‐Markovian queuing systems

open access: yesTechnological and Economic Development of Economy, 2006
The purpose of this paper is to suggest a method and software for evaluating queuing approximations. A numerical queuing model with priorities is used to explore the behaviour of exponential phase‐type approximation of service‐time distribution.

A probability distribution model based on the maximum entropy principle for wind power fluctuation estimation

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
Volatility is an inherent characteristic of wind power. The normal, Weibull, and other distributions are commonly used to describe the characteristics of wind power.

Measuring Point Planning and Fitting Optimization of the Flange and Spigot Structures of Aeroengine Rotors

open access: yesMachines, 2023
An optimized measuring point planning and fitting method for rotor flange and spigot structures was proposed to achieve precise measurement of position and pose of the aeroengine rotors during docking processes.

Statistical modelling of CG interdistance across multiple organisms

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2018
Background Statistical approaches to genetic sequences have revealed helpful to gain deeper insight into biological and structural functionalities, using ideas coming from information theory and stochastic modelling of symbolic sequences.

Quantile estimation via distribution fitting [PDF]

open access: yesApplicationes Mathematicae, 2019
Summary: This paper focuses on nonparametric estimation of quantiles, based on estimators of the distribution function. We review some known and recommended quantile estimators and propose a new one, which has all the desired properties of quantile estimators. The consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimators is proved.

Fitting an Exponential Distribution

open access: yesJournal of Applied Meteorology, 2005
Abstract Exponential distributions of the type N = N0 exp(−λt) occur with a high frequency in a wide range of scientific disciplines. This paper argues against a widely spread method for calculating the λ parameter in this distribution.

Uncertainty inherent in empirical fitting of distributions to experimental data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Metrology and Quality Engineering, 2013
Treatment of experimental data often entails fitting frequency functions, in order to draw inferences on the population underlying the sample at hand, and/or identify plausible mechanistic models.
