The insertion loss distribution function of an ear plug, and its implications for the ear plug acceptability

open access: yesNoise and Health, 2020
Introduction: In order to establish the acceptability of a hearing protector device (HPD) used in a given noisy environment, two key elements must be known with the highest possible accuracy: the insertion loss of the HPD and the associated variability ...

The Generalised Extreme Value Distribution as Utility Function [PDF]

open access: yes
The idea that probability distribution functions could provide appropriate mathematical forms for utility functions representing risk aversion is of respectable antiquity.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Analysis of Qualities of Numerical Methods for Calculating the Inverse Normal Cumulative Distribution Function

open access: yes, 2007
The inverse normal cumulative distribution function does not have a close form. Several algorithms for evaluating (or approximating) the inverse normal cumulative distribution function have been proposed.

An intergenerational theory of the consumption function [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
This thesis presents a theory of the consumption function called the 'Inter- Generational Hypothesis' (IGH). The theory starts from the premise that individuals derive utility not only from their own consumption, but also from the welfare of their ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Testing serial independence using the sample distribution function [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
This paper presents and discusses a nonparametric test for detecting serial dependence. We consider a Cramèr-v.Mises statistic based on the difference between the joint sample distribution and the product of the marginals.

The hybrid mean value of the Smarandache function and the Mangoldt function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
For any positive integer n, the famous F.Smarandache function S(n) is de¯ned as the smallest positive integer m such that njm!. The main purpose of this paper is using the elementary methods to study the hybrid mean value of the Smarandache function S(n)

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
