Infection Models for Pine Wilt Disease on the Basis of Vector Behaviors

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Infection models for pine wilt disease without vector density were built to estimate the transmission coefficient of the pathogenic nematode. The models successfully simulated the annual change in the density of infected trees for four pine stands. ABSTRACT Pine wilt disease is caused by the pinewood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus Steiner et ...

The Distribution of Prime Numbers [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2006
THIS interesting “Cambridge Tract” is concerned mainly with the behaviour, for large values of x, of the function n(x), which denotes the number of primes not exceeding x. The first chapter gives some elementary theorems concerning TT(O:), that is to say,

Redox‐dependent binding and conformational equilibria govern the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this work, we reveal how different enzyme binding configurations influence the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in live cells using time‐resolved anisotropy imaging and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM). Mathematical modelling shows that the redox states of the NAD and NADP pools govern these configurations, shaping their fluorescence ...

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Idiosyncrasy as an explanation for power laws in nature

open access: yes, 2013
Complex systems theory pays much attention to simple mechanisms producing nontrivial patterns, especially power laws. However, power laws with exponent close to one also result from complex mixtures of mechanisms that, in isolation, would not necessarily

Statistics for traces of cyclic trigonal curves over finite fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We study the variation of the trace of the Frobenius endomorphism associated to a cyclic trigonal curve of genus g over a field of q elements as the curve varies in an irreducible component of the moduli space.

Decrypting cancer's spatial code: from single cells to tissue niches

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Spatial transcriptomics maps gene activity across tissues, offering powerful insights into how cancer cells are organised, switch states and interact with their surroundings. This review outlines emerging computational, artificial intelligence (AI) and geospatial approaches to define cell states, uncover tumour niches and integrate spatial data with ...
