Sliding mode control of static shunt compensator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper deals with the implementation of sliding mode control (SMC) strategy for a four-leg voltage supply converter (VSC) based distribution static synchronous compensator (DSTATCOM) for power quality improvement in a three phase four-wire power ...

Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Multistage artificial immune system for static VAR compensator planning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Interconnected network of transmission and distribution lines lead to losses in the system and weakening the voltage stability in the system. Installing Static VAR Compensator (SVC) in power system has known to improve the system by minimizing the total ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Finite Control Set MPC based Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) for Load Compensation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
With the proliferation of nonlinear loads especially the power electronic loads, high harmonic content and poor power factor at the distribution end, the use of DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator) for reactive power control is gaining immense ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

A new voltage control strategy to improve performance of DSTATCOM in electric grid

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2020
A new voltage control strategy of distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) has been proposed in this paper for electric grid applications. The proposed control scheme combines two methods of DSTATCOM operation to improve its performance.

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.
