Analysing cache effects in distribution sorting

ACM Journal of Experimental Algorithmics, 1999
We study cache effects in distribution sorting algorithms for sorting keys drawn independently at random from a uniform distribution ('uniform keys'). We note that the performance of a recently-published distribution sorting algorithm, Flashsort1, which sorts n uniform floating-point keys in O(n) expected time ...

Analyse harmonique, distributions, convolution

Plasmid distribution and analyses in Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides

Plasmid, 1984
Ten strains of Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides were analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis for plasmid DNA content and, by filter-hybridizations, for their molecular relationships. All strains examined contained at least one plasmid. Several strains carried as many as six different plasmid species with sizes ranging from 42 to 140 kilobases (kb).

A cumulative probability distribution analyser

Mathematics and Computers in Simulation, 1963
A simple analyser capable of portraying the cumulative probability distribution of random and deterministic signals is described. The instrument uses standard analogue computing elements and examples are shown of its application to a variety of signals.

Analysing communication in complex distributed decision-making

Ergonomics, 1993
This paper analyses emergency tasks within the theoretical framework of dynamic environment management with distributed decision-making (DDM). Models of task and work organization are used to analyse verbal exchanges in order to infer collective strategies.

Anisotropy analyses of population distribution patterns

Frontiers of Biology in China, 2007
Direction-dependence, or anisotropy, of spatial distribution patterns of vegetation is rarely explored due to neglect of this ecological phenomenon and the paucity of methods dealing with this issue. This paper proposes a new approach to anisotropy analysis of spatial distribution patterns of plant populations on the basis of the data resampling ...

Frequency Distributions and Data Analyses

2014
Suppose 400 students are taking a freshman economics class. The midterm grades of the 400 students would be very difficult to analyze due to the large amount of data. However, by separating the grades into groups such as 90–100, 80–89, etc., it becomes much easier to evaluate the performance of the class. By setting up the classifications and observing

A method of analysing bird distributions

African Journal of Ecology, 1986
SummaryAn adaptation of simple species‐counts of birds can be used to obtain a reliable indication of relative abundance, referred to here as the B‐index. A series of fifteen counts at each site is needed, covering all seasons. Counts can be made at any time of day, but this should be varied. The method is shown to be particularly useful in comparing a

Frequency Distributions and Data Analyses

2012
Using the tabular and graphical methods discussed in Chap. 2, we will now develop two general ways to describe data more fully. We discuss first the tally table approach to depicting data frequency distributions and then three other kinds of frequency tables. Next, we explore alternative graphical methods for describing frequency distributions. Finally,

Conditional distribution analyses of probabilistic forecasts

Journal of Forecasting, 1985
AbstractProbabilistic forecasts have good ‘external correspondence’ if events that are assigned probabilities close to 1 tend to occur frequently, whereas those assigned probabilities near 0 tend to occur rarely. This paper describes simple procedures for analysing external correspondence into meaningful components that might guide efforts to ...
