Harnessing Solar for District Energy: Europe leading the way
Countries around the world areincreasingly recognizing the sun’stremendous potential as a renewableenergy source. According to the U.S.Department of Energy, every hour, moreenergy from sunlight strikes the Earththan is consumed on the planet in a year.In

Peak Shaving of a District Heated Office Building with Short-Term Thermal Energy Storage in Finland
Short-term thermal energy storage techniques can be effective to reduce peak power and accommodate more intermittent renewable energies in district heating systems. Centralized storage has been the most widely applied type.

In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Renewable Energy Policy Dialogue towards 2030 [PDF]
In view of the 2030 energy and climate objectives of the European Union, there is a need to evaluate the different options to shape the future framework for renewable energy sources (RES) policies and targets. The Special Issue focuses in seven papers on

Evaluation of design objectives in district heating system design
Energy system design is complex and the long utilization time of plants and the variance in economic parameters induce uncertainty into the outcome. In this article, different design objectives in a mid-sized district heating system design are evaluated.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Effects of energy efficiency measures in district-heated buildings on energy supply
In this study we estimate the final and primary energy savings for different energy efficiency measures in a multi-apartment building when heated by small-, medium- or large-scale district-heat production systems (DHSs).
