Electrolyte disturbances in the intensive care unit.

Seminars in dialysis, 2007
The development of many electrolyte disturbances in the ICU can be prevented by attention to the use of intravenous fluids and nutrition. Hyponatremia is a relative contraindication to the use of hypotonic intravenous fluids and hypernatremia calls for the administration of water.

Food store disturbance as a seismic intensity indicator

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1984
Abstract The disturbance of shelf items in food stores can be an useful system for the reliable determination of seismic intensity. The reliability of the food store intensity ratings results from the similarity of food stores at many different places. Also, the amount of disturbance in a food store is easily determined.

Eliminating Light Intensity Disturbance With Reference Compensation in Interferometers

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2015
In this letter, we introduce an improved phase-generated carrier (PGC) demodulation algorithm using reference compensation method to eliminate the influence of light intensity disturbance (LID) in interferometric fiber-optic sensors. In this method, the impacts of LID on acoustic signal and reference signal are the same.

Delirium and sleep disturbances in the intensive care unit

Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology, 2014
Delirium in the ICU affects as many as 60-80% of mechanically ventilated patients and a smaller but substantial percentage of other critically ill patients. Poor sleep quality has been consistently observed in critically ill patients. These problems are associated with worse ICU outcomes and, in many cases, delirium and poor sleep quality may be ...

Intensive day program for psychiatrically disturbed truant adolescents.

American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, 1998
Results of a day treatment program tailored to psychiatrically disturbed truant adolescents were compared to those of traditional outpatient treatment for effects on truancy, psychiatric symptoms, global improvement, and global functioning. Significantly greater reductions of truancy were found in the day treatment program, along with significantly ...

Analysis of the random disturbance in transmission intensity for Lippich prisms

Optik, 2011
Abstract We have theoretically studied the transmission intensity disturbance in the spinning Lippich prism polarizer. Experimental results indicate that the variation of the transmission intensity with the rotation angle deviates from Malus’ cosine-squared law and exhibits stochastic fluctuations.

[Disturbances of gastrointestinal motility in intensive care units].

Anasthesiologie, Intensivmedizin, Notfallmedizin, Schmerztherapie : AINS, 2011
Maintaining regular function of the intestinal tract is an important prerequisite for successful outcomes in critical illness. Disturbances of gastrointestinal motility are frequently caused by drugs, excessive fluid load, mechanical ventilation, surgical or ischemic damage, and occur frequently in sepsis and SIRS.

A Method of Measuring Radio Field Intensities and Atmospheric Disturbances

Proceedings of the IRE, 1924
The method of measuring radio signals here described depends on the determination of the equality of the sound intensities in the telephones from the signal and from a known alternating current preferably giving the same tone. The measured local current is taken from a thousand-cycle tuning fork oscillator and the electromotive force impressed on the ...
