Designed Alleles of ZmRap2.7 Decouple the Trade‐Off Between Early Flowering and Yield Penalty
ABSTRACT Flowering time genes often exhibit pleiotropic effects. In particular, early flowering is frequently associated with reduced grain yield due to a shorter growth period. This trade‐off poses a major challenge for developing early‐maturing and high‐yielding varieties, a key breeding objective in modern maize production. Here, we demonstrate that

Backside thinning techniques critically influence GaN laser performance. Compared to lapping, grinding reduces subsurface damage depth fivefold and lowers wafer bow, while mechanical polishing eliminates subsurface damage entirely. These improvements directly translate to smoother cleaved facets and a nearly 40% reduction in laser threshold current ...

Surfaced vehicle tracks are widespread across GB uplands, yet their extent and environmental footprint have until now been poorly quantified. Using remote sensing and a semi‐automated detection model (F1 = 84.3%), we mapped over 5190 km of hill track, finding density highest in wind farm and grouse moor landscapes and with over 2500 km overlapping ...

Peat extraction sites providing cavities and large areas of open soil favour a threatened songbird
Peat extraction sites can be important breeding habitat for the threatened northern wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe). Large areas of open soil offer suitable foraging habitat, while stacked peat sods provide hidden cavities for nesting. Together, these habitat features can support breeding populations of this threatened songbird.
