Border Ditch Irrigation in Colorado
Transactions of the ASAE, 1982ABSTRACT THE border ditch method is a labor intensive form of surface irrigation that is most appropriate for crops with deep root zones and large water requirements. Ir-rigating a field using the method requires irrigator ex-perience gained from trial and error experimentation on that particular field.

Vegetated ditches as a management practice in irrigated alfalfa
Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2007The organophosphate (OP) insecticides diazinon and chlorpyrifos have been frequently detected in the San Joaquin River, California, USA. Irrigation tail waters are a significant source of OP pesticides in the watershed. This study tested several management practices for reducing offsite movement of chlorpyrifos to surface water from flood irrigated ...

An Asphalt Incorporator and Packer for Lining Irrigation Ditches
Transactions of the ASAE, 1976ABSTRACT IN laboratory experiments, an asphalt emulsion mixed with soil has shown promise of being a suitable lining material for irrigation ditches. This paper describes prototype machinery developed for lining a field lateral with the mixture in order that it may be evaluated under field conditions.

Lining Irrigation Laterals and Farm Ditches
1961Excerpts from the report: Water is becoming one of the Nation's most limiting resources. In irrigation for agriculture, conveyance losses and low application efficiencies of water represent the principal source of waste. About one-third of all water diverted for irrigation is lost from point of diversion to the farm.

Substantiation of the parameters of temporary irrigation ditch leveler tools
Russian Agricultural Sciences, 2014It is established that the process of moving and placing dry upper soil layers and wet layers from the base of a bank in the channel of a temporary irrigation ditch is affected by the shape of the leveler mold-boards, clearance between them, and moldboard height and angle. The parameters of the leveler tool are calculated.

optimizing Temporal Water Allocation by Irrigation Ditch Companies
Transactions of the ASAE, 1987ABSTRACT Adynamic programming (DP) algorithm is presented for allocation of irrigation water over time by ditch companies. The algorithm optimizes weekly deliveries of water to farmers and uses a single state variable, total storage in reservoirs at the beginning of each week.

An Open Ditch Surge Flow Furrow Irrigation System
Applied Engineering in Agriculture, 1986AN automated rotating gate enabled an existing open channel furrow irrigation system to be adapted to surge flow. Equipment performance was quite reliable. System hydraulics were analyzed with respect to unequal outlet elevations, spatially varied flow within an irrigation bay, and unsteady flow due to the opening or closing of the automated gate ...

Mitigation Assessment of Vegetated Drainage Ditches for Collecting Irrigation Runoff in California
Journal of Environmental Quality, 2008AbstractWidespread contamination of California water bodies by the organophosphate insecticides diazinon and chlorpyrifos is well documented. While their usage has decreased over the last few years, a concomitant increase in pyrethroid usage (e.g., permethrin) (replacement insecticides) has occurred.

Plant diversity in a water-meadow landscape: the role of irrigation ditches
Plant Ecology, 2017Species-rich, extensively managed grasslands are among the most threatened ecosystems in Europe. The traditional technique of meadow irrigation, formerly practised in large parts of Europe, may be a viable management option that meets both ecological and economical objectives.
