SUMMARY Three parameters of the diuretic response to a water load are defined these are: diuretic lag, rate of diuresis and total output/input. A heterogeneous stock of mice was set up using the strains A/Cam, CBA/FaCam, SF/Cam and Peru. Directional selection was made from this stock for rate of diuresis, and total output/input.

A Quantitative Method of Evaluating the Diuretic Response to Furosemide in Rats
Pharmaceutical Research, 1988Furosemide effects are usually evaluated by measuring the urinary excretion rate of Na+ (UVNa) in humans. In the present study, however, UVNa showed a nonlinear relationship with urine flow rate after intravenous injection of furosemide in rats. In contrast, when the urinary excretion rate of (Na+ + K+) (UVNa + K) was plotted against the urine flow ...

Natriutetic and phosphaturic response to diuretics after parathyroidectomy in dogs
European Journal of Pharmacology, 1977Intact and acutely parathyroidectomized (TPTX) dogs were studied during hydropenia, volume expansion (VE), volume expansion plus ethacrynic acid (EA), and volume expansion plus acetazolamide (AZ). In intact dogs, VE produced marked increases in both Na+ and phosphate (Pi) excretion; in TPTX dogs, Na+ excretion increased but phosphaturia was minimal ...

Effect of Albumin on Diuretic Response to Furosemide in Patients With Hypoalbuminemia
American Journal of Critical Care, 2012BackgroundAlbumin is broadly prescribed for critically ill patients although it does not have a mortality benefit over crystalloids. One common use of albumin is to promote diuresis.ObjectivesTo compare urine output in patients treated with furosemide with and without albumin and to assess other variables possibly associated with enhanced diuresis ...

RESPONSE OF THE INFANT KIDNEY TO DIURETIC DRUGS.
Canadian Medical Association journal, 1996The diuretic response of normal infants, 6 to 47 days of age, to single doses of mercaptomerin, chlorothiazide, acetazolamide, triamterene and spironolactone was studied by following urinary electrolytes, pH and osmolality. Peak diuresis occured two to four hours after drug administration, and because of compensatory mechanisms little change in urinary
