Floristic diversity, composition and dominance across Amazonian forest types respond differently to latitude

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 50, Issue 4, Page 685-698, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Aim The latitudinal biodiversity gradient is considered a first‐order biogeographical pattern for most taxonomic groups. Latitudinal variation in plant diversity is not always consistent, and this could be related to the particular characteristics of different forest types.

Diversity patterns of epiphytic bryophytes across spatial scales: Species‐rich crowns and beta‐diverse trunks

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 893-905, July 2022., 2022
Forest canopies are highly complex habitats, home to a wide range of organism groups. We observed that spatial scaling of alpha and beta diversity patterns differs between crown and trunk epiphytic bryophyte communities. The evidence we provide contributes to further understanding how processes such as species interactions and environmental filtering ...

The relationship between equine pastern dermatitis, meteorological factors, and the skin microbiota

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 165-e48, April 2022., 2022
Background – Equine pastern dermatitis (EPD) is a multifactorial syndrome, with prolonged exposure to moisture assumed to be a predisposing or primary factor. Hypothesis/Objectives – To examine the course of EPD lesion severity, changes in bacterial skin microbiota, and the influence of meteorological factors.

Agriculture causes homogenization of plant‐feeding nematode communities at the regional scale

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 58, Issue 12, Page 2881-2891, December 2021., 2021
The importance of soil nematodes in soil processes is well known. We show that land‐use intensification reduces soil nematode diversity. Our study has important implications for the development of management strategies that foster soil biodiversity conservation such as no or minimal tillage and logging, vegetative covers and the maintenance of natural ...

Functional diversity of macroinvertebrates as a tool to evaluate wetland restoration

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 58, Issue 12, Page 2999-3011, December 2021., 2021
Considering different aspects of functional diversity of invertebrate communities can help elucidate the processes and mechanisms through which ecosystems recover following restoration. We encourage the use of trait‐based approaches to identify trends in processes and patterns that can guide future wetland restoration projects.

The skin microbiota in equine pastern dermatitis: a case‐control study of horses in Switzerland

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 32, Issue 6, Page 646-e172, December 2021., 2021
Background – Equine pastern dermatitis (EPD), a multifactorial syndrome, manifests as skin lesions of variable severity in the pastern area. Despite the widespread use of antibacterial therapy for treating this condition, little is known about the contributing bacteria.

Contrasting trends in biodiversity of birds and trees during succession following cacao agroforest abandonment

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 58, Issue 6, Page 1248-1260, June 2021., 2021
Our research highlights the value of actively cultivated cacao agroforests and secondary forest alongside primary forests as reservoirs of biodiversity. By supporting both biodiversity and livelihoods, traditionally grown shade‐cacao agroforests fall within a people and nature framework.
