The frequency and importance of polyploidy in tropical rainforest tree radiations. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Summary The presence of more than two copies of the genome in an organism, termed ‘polyploidy’, is a crucial force in plant evolution, generating genetic, phenotypic and ecological diversity. [Correction added on 22 January 2026, after first online publication: the preceding sentence has been corrected.] The Amazonian tree flora is the most species ...

Bird-window collisions: A comprehensive dataset for the Neotropical region. [PDF]

open access: yesEcology
Abstract Our primary objective was to compile a comprehensive dataset on bird–window collisions throughout the Neotropical region, including both published and unpublished sources. On May 12, 2020, we extensively disseminated invitations to provide data via email and social media platforms.

The potential of seedbank digital information in plant conservation

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Seedbanks are vital for biodiversity conservation, but their potential remains underutilised due to a limited understanding of the intraspecific genetic diversity they hold. By leveraging digitised data associated with seedbank collections, such as sampling locations, number of maternal plants and seed traits, we can attempt the estimation of genetic ...

In vitro culture, cryopreservation, and field reintroduction of the endangered Mingan thistle

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Current plant conservation efforts are hindered by, for example, poor seed germination, low viability, and insufficient propagation and preservation technologies. To address these problems, we devised an approach to plant conservation that integrates conservation, preservation, and restoration (CPR), which uses advanced in vitro techniques. We

Identifying Key Biodiversity Areas Based on Distinct Genetic Diversity

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are sites that contribute significantly to the global persistence of biodiversity. Distinct genetic diversity has been introduced as one of the metrics to estimate whether a site holds a threshold proportion of a species' global genetic diversity during the KBA identification process.

Genetic origins and climate‐induced erosion in economically important Asian walnuts

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract The global climate is undergoing unprecedented changes, posing significant threats to species persistence. However, the spatiotemporal impacts on genetic diversity remain poorly understood, hindering species conservation and management. Walnuts, generally referred to as Juglans regia and J. sigillata, are economically vital in Asia, but little

Patterns of Interploidy Admixture in Polyploid Complexes: Insights From Thymus Sect. Mastichina (Lamiaceae)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 3, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding gene flow between ploidy levels in polyploid complexes is essential for species delimitation and conservation. This study explores evolutionary dynamics in the polyploid complex Thymus sect. Mastichina (Lamiaceae), comprising three taxa: T. mastichina subsp. mastichina, T. mastichina subsp.

Urban rendezvous: Spatiotemporal overlap is more important than abundance and trait matching for urban plant–pollinator interactions

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our study shows that the generalized structure of urban plant–pollinator interactions is mirrored in the mechanisms that shape them, as interactions are governed primarily by less restrictive drivers such as abundance and spatiotemporal overlap rather than by trait matching.
