Proactive Resource Allocation: Harnessing the Diversity and Multicast Gains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper introduces the novel concept of proactive resource allocation through which the predictability of user behavior is exploited to balance the wireless traffic over time, and hence, significantly reduce the bandwidth required to achieve a given ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

End-to-End Joint Antenna Selection Strategy and Distributed Compress and Forward Strategy for Relay Channels

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, 2009
Multihop relay channels use multiple relay stages, each with multiple relay nodes, to facilitate communication between a source and destination. Previously, distributed space-time codes were proposed to maximize the achievable diversity-multiplexing ...

Millimeter wavelength propagation studies [PDF]

open access: yes
Diversity data obtained using the ATS-5 satellite and available BTL data were compared with optimum diversity gain predictions. This comparison indicates that terminal spacings exceeding 8 km result in values of diversity gain within 1.5 dB of the ...

Diversity Analysis of Symbol-by-Symbol Linear Equalizers

open access: yes, 2011
In frequency-selective channels linear receivers enjoy significantly-reduced complexity compared with maximum likelihood receivers at the cost of performance degradation which can be in the form of a loss of the inherent frequency diversity order or ...

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Multi Band Miniaturized 2 × 2 MIMO Antenna for Sub-6-GHz Applications

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper presents a novel and compact $2\times 2$ MIMO antenna design intended for sub-6 GHz 5G applications. The antenna is fabricated on a FR4 based substrate measuring $0.625\lambda _{0} \times 0.625\lambda _{0} \times 0.101\lambda _{0 ...
