Poor psychological health is highly prevalent at the time of an IBD diagnosis and is associated with gastrointestinal symptom‐specific anxiety and the occurrence of stressful life events in the 12 months prior to diagnosis. These findings suggest genuine gut‐brain effects in IBD.
