Diverticulitis of the Colon

Surgical Clinics of North America, 1972
Treatment of diverticulitis has varied considerably over the years, from a conservative approach limited to drainage of abscesses and decompression of obstruction, to direct surgical attack on the disease itself. Recent evidence suggests that diverticular disease of the colon should be treated surgically, according to the type of disease present, when ...

Diverticulitis of the right colon

The American Journal of Surgery, 1961
Abstract Diverticulitis of the right colon is relatively rare, and it may occur at any age. However, since congential “true” diverticula are more common in the proximal colon, patients with this disease are on the average younger than those who have inflammation of acquired diverticula in the distal colon.

Diverticulitis of the Colon

Postgraduate Medicine, 1962
Many of the serious complications of diverticulitis can be prevented by careful dietary and medical management instituted early in the disease. At least 80 per cent of cases of early diverticulitis can be successfully managed in this way. If surgical intervention is indicated, it is preferable to operate at a time when a one stage resection is feasible.

Diverticulitis of the ascending colon

The American Journal of Surgery, 1968
Abstract Cecal diverticulitis is an unusual lesion and most surgeons have had little personal experience with it. Diagnosis, even at the time of operation, is difficult and consequently treatment is often inappropriate. A preoperative diagnosis of appendicitis and suspected malignancy at the time of operation are usual.
