Diverticulosis affects both sexes about equally, but diverticulitis is more common in females. Twenty-five per cent of patients with diverticulosis will develop diverticulitis; this percentage rises as the follow-up period lengthens. The probability of developing a complication increases with each attack of diverticulitis and when diabetes coexists ...

Diverticulitis of the right colon
Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 1984Diverticulitis of the right colon is a relatively uncommon disease that usually mimics acute appendicitis. Most patients are operated on early, and a barium enema is not commonly obtained. Five cases with barium studies are presented. DIVERTICULITIS OF THE ASCENDING COLON
Archives of Surgery, 1953THERE has been increasing interest in cecal diverticulitis since the first case was reported by Portier1in 1912. Since that time, however, no distinction between diverticulitis of the cecum and diverticulitis of the ascending colon has been made in the literature.

Many of the serious complications of diverticulitis can be prevented by careful dietary and medical management instituted early in the disease. At least 80 per cent of cases of early diverticulitis can be successfully managed in this way. If surgical intervention is indicated, it is preferable to operate at a time when a one stage resection is feasible.

Abstract Diverticulitis is more common than is generally supposed. It should be kept in mind when considering obscure abdominal cases such as possible sigmoiditis, appendicitis, especially true transposed left-sided appendicitis, carcinoma, tuberculosis and some pelvic lesions. There are no characteristic symptoms known.

Diverticulitis of the ascending colon
The American Journal of Surgery, 1968Abstract Cecal diverticulitis is an unusual lesion and most surgeons have had little personal experience with it. Diagnosis, even at the time of operation, is difficult and consequently treatment is often inappropriate. A preoperative diagnosis of appendicitis and suspected malignancy at the time of operation are usual.
