Interpolation and divided differences

2002
Abstract The problem that we consider in this chapter is the following: let f be a function which we assume to be continuous on the interval [a, b] and let xO, xl,... , xn be n + 1 pairwise distinct points given in the interval [a, b].

ON AN INEQUALITY FOR DIVIDED DIFFERENCES

Asian-European Journal of Mathematics, 2008
The main purpose of this paper is to give the generalization and improvement of the result given in [2] on the inequality of the difference of two integral means which can also be represented as the difference of two divided differences.

The iterated divided difference filter

2008 IEEE International Conference on Automation and Logistics, 2008
With an application to target tracking, the iterated divided difference filter is presented. In new algorithm, an iterated measurement update was proposed to improve the approximation accuracy of the nonlinear state estimation. When iterating, the current mean and the covariance of the divided difference filter (DDF) were used to measurement update ...

Blossoming and Divided Difference

2001
Blossoming and divided difference are shown to be characterized by a similar set of axioms. But the divided difference obeys a cancellation postulate which is not included in the standard blossoming axioms. Here the blossom is extended to incorporate a new set of parameters along with a cancellation axiom.

Divided differences and generalized Taylor series

Forum Mathematicum, 2008
Summary: By combining divided differences with symmetric function relations, we establish two expansion formulae which generalize the classical Taylor theorem and the Maclauren expansion formula. The two \(q\)-expansion formulae due to Carlitz and Liu are also contained as special cases.

The divided difference particle filter

2007 10th International Conference on Information Fusion, 2007
Based on the concept of sequential importance sampling (SIS) and the use of Bayesian theory, particle filter is particularly useful in dealing with nonlinear and non-Gaussian problems. In this paper, a new particle filter is proposed that uses a divided difference filter to generate the importance proposal distribution is proposed.

Divided Differences and Linearly Recursive Sequences

Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1995
We show that the theory of divided differences is a natural tool for the study of linearly recurrent sequences. The divided differences functional associated with a monic polynomial w on degree n + 1 yields a vector space isomorphism between the space of polynomials of degree at most equal to n and the space of linearly recurrent sequences f that ...
