Monodromy of subrepresentations and irreducibility of low degree automorphic Galois representations

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 108, Issue 6, Page 2436-2490, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Let X$X$ be a smooth, separated, geometrically connected scheme defined over a number field K$K$ and {ρλ:π1(X)→GLn(Eλ)}λ$\lbrace \rho _\lambda :\pi _1(X)\rightarrow \mathrm{GL}_n(E_\lambda )\rbrace _\lambda$ a system of semisimple λ$\lambda$‐adic representations of the étale fundamental group of X$X$ such that for each closed point x$x$ of X$X$

Families of ϕ‐congruence subgroups of the modular group

open access: yesMathematika, Volume 69, Issue 4, Page 1104-1144, October 2023., 2023
Abstract We introduce and study families of finite index subgroups of the modular group that generalize the congruence subgroups. Such groups, termed ϕ‐congruence subgroups, are obtained by reducing homomorphisms ϕ from the modular group into a linear algebraic group modulo integers.

Semisimple four‐dimensional topological field theories cannot detect exotic smooth structure

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 542-566, June 2023., 2023
Abstract We prove that semisimple four‐dimensional oriented topological field theories lead to stable diffeomorphism invariants and can therefore not distinguish homeomorphic closed oriented smooth four‐manifolds and homotopy equivalent simply connected closed oriented smooth four‐manifolds.

Gromov–Witten theory of complete intersections via nodal invariants

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 16, Issue 1, Page 264-343, March 2023., 2023
Abstract We provide an inductive algorithm computing Gromov–Witten invariants in all genera with arbitrary insertions of all smooth complete intersections in projective space. We also prove that all Gromov–Witten classes of all smooth complete intersections in projective space belong to the tautological ring of the moduli space of stable curves.

On the Euler characteristic of S$S$‐arithmetic groups

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract We show that the sign of the Euler characteristic of an S$S$‐arithmetic subgroup of a simple algebraic group depends on the S$S$‐congruence completion only, except possibly in type 6D4${}^6 D_4$. Consequently, the sign is a profinite invariant for such S$S$‐arithmetic groups with the congruence subgroup property. This generalizes previous work

Radical preservation and the finitistic dimension

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract We introduce the notion of radical preservation and prove that a radical‐preserving homomorphism of left artinian rings of finite projective dimension with superfluous kernel reflects the finiteness of the little finitistic, big finitistic, and global dimension.

A note on the cohomology of moduli spaces of local shtukas

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 57, Issue 12, Page 3709-3729, December 2025.
Abstract We study localized versions of spectral action of Fargues–Scholze, using methods from higher algebra. As our main motivation and application, we deduce a formula for the cohomology of moduli spaces of local shtukas under certain genericity assumptions, and discuss its relation with the Kottwitz conjecture.

GL‐algebras in positive characteristic II: The polynomial ring

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 131, Issue 6, December 2025.
Abstract We study GL$\mathbf {GL}$‐equivariant modules over the infinite variable polynomial ring S=k[x1,x2,…,xn,…]$S = k[x_1, x_2, \ldots, x_n, \ldots]$ with k$k$ an infinite field of characteristic p>0$p > 0$. We extend many of Sam–Snowden's far‐reaching results from characteristic zero to this setting.

Topological K‐theory of quasi‐BPS categories for Higgs bundles

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 18, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract In a previous paper, we introduced quasi‐BPS categories for moduli stacks of semistable Higgs bundles. Under a certain condition on the rank, Euler characteristic, and weight, the quasi‐BPS categories (called BPS in this case) are noncommutative analogues of Hitchin integrable systems.

The geometry and arithmetic of bielliptic Picard curves

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 112, Issue 5, November 2025.
Abstract We study the geometry and arithmetic of the curves C:y3=x4+ax2+b$C \colon y^3 = x^4 + ax^2 + b$ and their associated Prym abelian surfaces P$P$. We prove a Torelli‐type theorem in this context and give a geometric proof of the fact that P$P$ has quaternionic multiplication by the quaternion order of discriminant 6.
