Reference equations for DLNO and DLCO in Mexican Hispanics: influence of altitude and race [PDF]
ObjectivesThis study aimed to evaluate pulmonary diffusing capacity for nitric oxide (DLNO) and pulmonary diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) in Mexican Hispanics born and raised at 2240 m altitude (midlanders) compared with those born and raised at sea level (lowlanders).

INTRODUCTION Decreased diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) is observed in some idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) patients, but its clinical significance is uncertain.

Background: DLco remains one of the most commonly performed tests in the pulmonary lab. An isolated reduction in DLco is a unique abnormality with specific differentials when evaluating a patient with dyspnea. There remains a significant misunderstanding amongst young pulmonologists and pulmonary trainees regarding DLco and its relationship with ...

129Xe MRI red blood cell to alveolar tissue plasma ratio (RBC:TP) abnormalities have been observed in ever-hospitalised and never-hospitalised people with postacute COVID-19 syndrome (PACS).

Purpose During a follow-up program of patients admitted for COVID-19 at our non-ICU Unit, we found that 37% of them had decreased diffusing lung capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) 3–6 months after discharge. This prospective observational study aimed to

Measurement of Gas Exchange Surface Area from Dlno and Dlco
The estimated diffusion coefficients for nitric oxide and carbon monoxide in human plasma and red cells can be inserted into the equations for Fick's 1st and 2nd laws. The surface area of the alveolar membrane and exposed red cells can then be calculated from DLNO and DLCO (in hyperoxia).

Pulmonary Vascular Volume by Quantitative CT in Dyspneic Smokers with Minor Emphysema
Reduced lung diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) at rest and increased ventilation (⩒E)-carbon dioxide output (⩒CO2) during exercise are frequent findings in dyspneic smokers with largely preserved FEV1.

Mechanisms of Exertional Dyspnea in Patients with Mild COPD and a Low Resting DLCO
Patients with mild chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lower resting diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) often report troublesome dyspnea during exercise although the mechanisms are not clear. We postulated that in such individuals,

Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia can have prolonged sequelae and lead to respiratory dysfunction, mainly because of impaired diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO).
