Micro DMFC for Portable Applications
ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2019Objective and results Methanol fuel cell systems have the potential of being part of a portable energy system with both high energy density and fast refueling. A hearing aid is an example of a device where fast and easy refueling/recharging and high energy density is an important requirement.

An innovative passive DMFC technology
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2008This paper describes recent advances in the passive technology of direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC) for portable applications made at the University of Connecticut (UConn). The effort on DMFCs at UConn includes work devoted to new planar stack hardware and work on system level design and engineering.

A Parametric Analysis on DMFC Anode Degradation
Fuel Cells, 2013AbstractDegradation is one of the critical issues of direct methanol fuel cells. The experimental investigations found in the literature show that degradation has both permanent and temporary contributions. The latter can be recovered after operation interruption, but its origins are not fully understood.

Innovative system designs for DMFC
Journal of Power Sources, 2006Abstract Bipolar designs for a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) with liquid electrolyte have been investigated, aiming at a reduction of methanol crossover. A “spacer” (separator) material has to be applied which is inert in a sulphuric acid/methanol surrounding.

Passive Fuel-Feed Minature DMFCs
ECS Transactions, 2009We propose a novel passive fuel feeding system for DMFC applications. This system consists of fuel tank, wick structure and pressurized chamber which is referred to chemical pump in this report. The fuel is a mixture of methanol and some chemicals that can generate non-condensable gas in the chemical pump.
