Potential movement of transposable elements through DNA circularization

Current Genetics, 2016
The generation of circular DNAs is a relatively unrecognized type of genomic structural variation, but recent findings point to a possible role of circular DNAs in the movement of transposable elements. Circularization of genomic DNA is observed across eukaryotic species, in a range of different cell types, and from all parts of the genome.

Population genetics of transposable DNA elements

1993
This paper is an attempt to bring together the various, dispersed data published in the literature on insertion polymorphism of transposable elements from various kinds of populations (natural populations, laboratory strains, isofemale and inbred lines).

DNA Methylation and Transposable Genetic Elements

1984
The process of DNA methylation has excited the imagination of many investigators since Gold etal. (1963 a, b) demonstrated an enzyme which transferred methyl groups from S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to DNA. The feasibility of this process had been indicated by the discovery that a similar transfer was catalyzed in vitro by soluble enzymes from ...

DNA Methylation and Activity of the Maize Spm Transposable Element

1995
Maize transposons were the first plant genes known to undergo reversible heritable inactivation. Early in the study of the Suppressor-mutator (Spm) trans-posable element McClintock recognized that certain isolates of the element either cycled between inactive and active phases during development or underwent an inactivation event of longer duration and

DNA sequence analysis of a Drosophila foldback transposable element rearrangement

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1982
The complete nucleotide sequence of a DNA rearrangement associated with the foldback 4 (FB 4) transposable element is presented. The results demonstrate that the entire loop sequence and almost all of one of the inverted terminal repeats is absent.

Plant transposable elements generate the DNA sequence diversity needed in evolution

The EMBO Journal, 1985
Two germinal and 16 somatic reversion events induced by the Enhancer (En) transposable element system at the wx-8::Spm-I8 allele of Zea mays were cloned and studied by sequence analysis. Excision of the Spm-I8 receptor element from the wx gene results in various mutant DNA sequences.

Examination of herpes virus DNA sequences for patterns that resemble transposable elements

Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1988
Herpes viruses are associated with many types of oral tumors and can be tumorigenic in vitro. The mechanisms by which they transform cells remain unknown, but it has been suggested that they contain insertion sequences. Two algorithms were developed to search DNA sequences for the presence of patterns that characterize such elements using either ...
