Commandeering the People: Why the Individual Health Insurance Mandate is Unconstitutional [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” includes what is called an “individual responsibility requirement” or mandate that all persons buy health insurance from a private company and a separate “penalty” enforcing this requirement. In this paper,

A Perspective on Interactive Theorem Provers in Physics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Into an interactive theorem provers (ITPs), one can write mathematical definitions, theorems and proofs, and the correctness of those results is automatically checked. This perspective goes over the best usage of ITPs within physics and motivates the open‐source community run project PhysLean, the aim of which is to be a library for digitalized physics

The Pinkerton Doctrine and Murder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
[Excerpt] Suppose that A hires B to rob a bank in Massachusetts and A then hires C to rob a bank in Rhode Island. B and C have not met face to face, but each knows he is part of a conspiracy to rob banks in more than one state.

A Bottom‐Up Design Framework for Multifunctional Lattice Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a generative AI framework for designing multifunctional lattice metamaterials. The method combines 3D Gaussian voxel generation with deep learning, enabling greater design freedom and structural performance. The optimized lattice metamaterials achieve enhanced energy absorption by 40–200% compared to conventional structures and ...

Synergistic Tuning of Conformational Dynamics, Electron Tunneling, and Substrate Positioning Enhances Electron Transfer in a P450 Chimera for Calcifediol Biosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A synergistic electron transfer (ET) optimization strategy modulating conformational dynamics, ET pathway, and substrate orientation is proposed for self‐sufficient cytochrome P450s. Guided by this strategy, a P450 variant with improved ET and catalytic efficiency was identified, and the underlying molecular basis was revealed by computational analysis.

Selective Lithium Recovery via Photothermal Evaporation and Hydration‐Controlled Adsorption

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bilayer Mo‐LDH@Sponge composite is developed to couple interfacial photothermal evaporation with hydration‐controlled lithium adsorption. Solar‐induced heating dynamically regulates Li+ hydration and transport, enabling selective lithium capture from saline water. This work provides mechanistic insight into photothermal–adsorption coupling for energy‐

The True Lender Doctrine: Function over Form as a Reasonable Constraint on the Exportation of Interest Rates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The exportation doctrine permits national and state banks to export interest rates that are legal in one state where they operate to any other state, thereby shielding the banks from liability resulting from state usury claims.
