Using content based image retrieval techniques for the indexing and retrieval of Thai handwritten documents

open access: yes, 2010
This paper proposes the use of content base image retrieval (CBIR) techniques for indexing and retrieval of handwritten documents in Thai language. Issues associated with Thai handwritten documents are the lack of spacing between words, multi-level ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

A Linear-Algebraic Technique with an Application in Semantic Image Retrieval

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents a novel technique for learning the underlying structure that links visual observations with semantics. The technique, inspired by a text-retrieval technique known as cross-language latent semantic indexing uses linear algebra to learn

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

A Novel Image Segmentation Method for Complex Document Images

open access: yes, 2013
[[abstract]]Recently, texts are often printed on complex background. How to segment texts becomes an important research topic of document analysis. Some segment methods have been developed for texts from document image.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

MIDV-DM: A Document-Oriented Dataset for Image Manipulation Detection and Localization

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика
As the scope of application of document recognition systems in business processes increases, so does the number of attacks on these systems. One form of such attacks could involve software for manipulating a digital image of a document.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Strategies for image visualisation and browsing

open access: yes, 2010
PhDThe exploration of large information spaces has remained a challenging task even though the proliferation of database management systems and the state-of-the art retrieval algorithms is becoming pervasive.
