Document image analysis using integrated image and neural processing
Proceedings of 3rd International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2002In this paper we present robust algorithms for detecting the page orientation (portrait/landscape) and the degree of skew for binary document images, and a method for classification of binary document images into textual or non-textual data blocks using neural network models.

Image processing for compound documents
IEE Colloquium on Document Image Processing and Multimedia Environments, 1995Until recently, a lot of document image processing (DIP) research has concentrated on the recognition of characters and shapes in document. Whilst the problems of text only based documents have largely been solved, there is a greater need to address the image processing problems posed by mixed-media or multimedia documents.

Blind document image enhancement based on diffusion process
2014 5th European Workshop on Visual Information Processing (EUVIP), 2014Document image enhancement is a well investigated field of research. Many approaches based on nonlinear anisotropic diffusion have been proved efficient for removing some common artifacts such as bleed-through. However, the proposed methods are somewhat ineffective in removing bleed-through artifacts while strengthening original side strokes.

Image processing for electronic document storage
IEE Proceedings E Computers and Digital Techniques, 1988Reos is a document image processing system which stores images of paper documents as a bit map on optical discs. These images are displayed on a CRT at a lower resolution compared to the stored data. The conversion and display of the stored information must be performed quickly to achieve an acceptable system response time; since even highly optimised ...

HistDoc - A Toolbox for Processing Images of Historical Documents
2010HistDoc is a software tool designed to process images of historical documents. It has two operation modes: standalone mode - one can process one image a time; and batch mode - one can process thousands of documents automatically. This tool automatically detects noises present in the document image including back-to-front interference (also called ...

Using morphology in document image processing
SPIE Proceedings, 1991ABSTRACT To improve the readability, image compression, and optical character recognition (OCR) system performance fortwo-tone (binary) text image data, we investigated morphological methods of image processing. We found them to be fastand effective not only with noisy text images but with relatively noise-free images as well.

Large scale parallel document image processing.
2008Building a system which allows to search a very large database of document images. requires professionalization of hardware and software, e-science and web access. In astrophysics there is ample experience dealing with large data sets due to an increasing number of measurement instruments.
