FAIR: A Fast Algorithm for Document Image Restoration [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2013
We present, in this paper, the FAIR algorithm: a fast algorithm for document image restoration. This algorithm has been submitted to different contests where it showed good performance in comparison to the state of the art. In addition, this method is scale invariant and fast enough to be used in real-time applications.

Restoration of deteriorated text sections in ancient document images using a tri-level semi-adaptive thresholding technique

open access: yesAutomatika, 2022
The proposed research aims to restore deteriorated text sections that are affected by stain markings, ink seepages and document ageing in ancient document photographs, as these challenges confront document enhancement.

Fourier Document Restoration for Robust Document Dewarping and Recognition

open access: yes2022 IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 2022
State-of-the-art document dewarping techniques learn to predict 3-dimensional information of documents which are prone to errors while dealing with documents with irregular distortions or large variations in depth. This paper presents FDRNet, a Fourier Document Restoration Network that can restore documents with different distortions and improve ...

Water chemistry and tufa deposition on the restored dam of Huohua Lake in the Jiuzhai Valley

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica, 2023
In 2017, an Ms 7.0 earthquake breached the tufa dam of Huohua Lake in the Jiuzhai Valley, resulting in the lake drainage. Exposed to the atmosphere, the tufa dam collapsed due to continued physical and chemical weathering.

Image restoration of arbitrarily warped documents [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2004
We present a framework for acquiring and restoring images of warped documents. The purpose of our restoration is to create a planar representation of a once planar document that has undergone an arbitrary and unknown rigid deformation. To accomplish this restoration, our framework acquires and flattens the 3D shape of a warped document to determine a ...

Sparse Document Image Coding for Restoration [PDF]

open access: yes2013 12th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2013
Sparse representation based image restoration techniques have shown to be successful in solving various inverse problems such as denoising, in painting, and super-resolution, etc. on natural images and videos. In this paper, we explore the use of sparse representation based methods specifically to restore the degraded document images.
