Quality assessment and restoration of typewritten document images
International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition, 1999We present a useful method for assessing the quality of a typewritten document image and automatically selecting an optimal restoration method based on that assessment. We use five quality measures that assess the severity of background speckle, touching characters, and broken characters.

Geometric and photometric restoration of distorted documents
Tenth IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV'05) Volume 1, 2005We present a system to restore the 2D content printed on distorted documents. Our system works by acquiring a 3D scan of the document's surface together with a high-resolution image. Using the 3D surface information and the 2D image, we can ameliorate unwanted surface distortion and effects from non-uniform illumination.

Restoration of motion blurred document images
Proceedings of the 27th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 2012Motion blur often decreases the quality of document image and makes the text information within the document images unreachable by optical character recognition (OCR) or by a person. This paper presents a blur correction technique that aims to correct motion blur within document images.

Independent component analysis for document restoration
Document Analysis and Recognition, 2004We propose a novel approach to restoring digital document images, with the aim of improving text legibility and OCR performance. These are often compromised by the presence of artifacts in the background, derived from many kinds of degradations, such as spots, underwritings, and show-through or bleed-through effects.

Nonlinear shape restoration for document images
Proceedings CVPR IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 1996Previous researches on nonlinear shape restoration are based on the assumptions that the original shapes and distortions of the images have known formulations under certain conditions. The main contribution of this research is the development of a new restoration algorithm, called Multi-Steps Restoration.

When the scale of a restoration project requires that you work with and through others, you need to develop instructions to guide those who are conducting the work on your behalf. How well you communicate to the project team and stakeholders is by far the most critical element for successful project completion.

Document Fragments Restoration via Similarity Measurement
2021 6th International Conference on Multimedia and Image Processing, 2021The automatic restoration technology of shredded paper is an important branch in computer science. It plays an important role in judicial evidence restoration, the restoration of secret documents, and many other areas. In this article, we establish a similarity measurement model by data mining.

Restoring 2D Content from Distorted Documents
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2007This paper presents a framework to restore the 2D content printed on documents in the presence of geometric distortion and non-uniform illumination. Compared with textbased document imaging approaches that correct distortion to a level necessary to obtain sufficiently readable text or to facilitate optical character recognition (OCR), our work targets ...
