Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Back Propagation Neural Network model for analysis of hyperspectral images to predict apple firmness
The potential of employing hyperspectral imaging (HSI) in the near-infrared (NIR) range (386.82−1,004.50 nm) for predicting the firmness of 'Fuji' apples cultivated in Aksu has been evaluated.

Incorporating Topic Information in a Global Feature Selection Schema for Authorship Attribution
Authorship attribution (AA) is a stylometric analysis task of finding the author of an anonymous/disputed text document. In AA, the performance improvement of class-based feature selection schemas, such as Chi-square, and Gini index over frequency-based ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A novel somatic cancer gene-based biomedical document feature ranking and clustering model
Background: As the size of somatic genomes in biomedical repositories increases, it is essential to predict cancer related document sets using the machine learning models. Most of the traditional gene-based somatic cancer mining models are independent of

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
