Vacuolar transport and function of Saccharomyces cerevisiae sterol ester hydrolase Tgl1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tgl1, one of yeast sterol ester hydrolases, had been found on the lipid droplets where sterol esters are mainly stored. This study revealed that Tgl1 is transported into the vacuole depending on the ESCRT‐I–III complex, and that it exhibits intra‐vacuolar sterol ester hydrolase activity.

Structure-based knowledge acquisition from electronic lab notebooks for research data provenance documentation

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Semantics, 2022
Background Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs) are used to document experiments and investigations in the wet-lab. Protocols in ELNs contain a detailed description of the conducted steps including the necessary information to understand the procedure ...

Humans as intuitive classifiers

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2023
Mainstream decision research rests on two implicit working assumptions, inspired by subjective expected utility theory. The first assumes that the underlying processes can be separated into judgment and decision-making stages without affecting their ...

The ToCAI DS for audio-visual documents. Structure and concepts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This document complements the description of the audio-visual (AV) description scheme (DS) called Table of Content-Analytical Index (TOCAI) proposed in MPEG-7 CFP that was evaluated in Lancaster (February 1999).

The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

PESAC, the Generalized Framework for RANSAC-Based Methods on SIMD Computing Platforms

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
This paper focuses on the computational optimization of RANSAC. We describe the Parallel Efficient Sample Consensus (PESAC) framework that allows efficient utilization of SIMD extensions and provides memory locality due to a special way of storing the ...

Limitations of the MPEG-7 Generic DS: Reorganizing the Syntactic/Semantic DS’s [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In this document, we propose some modifications to the MPEG-7 Description Scheme (DS) [1] in order to enrich the structure of the Syntactic DS and Semantic DS by addressing some functionalities for semantically characterizing segments and for ...

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...
