Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Urban environment predisposes dogs and their owners to allergic symptoms

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Our companion-animals, dogs, suffer increasingly from non-communicable diseases, analogous to those common in humans, such as allergic manifestations. In humans, living in rural environments is associated with lower risk of allergic diseases. Our aim was

How Much is Enough? An Empirical Test of the Resource Dispersion Hypothesis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Free-ranging dogs (Canis familiaris) thrive in diverse landscapes, including those heavily modified by humans. This study investigated the influence of resource availability on their spatial ecology across 52 rural and 41 urban sites, comparing urban and rural environments.

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Automated Optimal Layout Generator for Animal Shelters: A framework based on Genetic Algorithm, TOPSIS and Graph Theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Overpopulation in animal shelters contributes to increased disease spread and higher expenses on animal healthcare, leading to fewer adoptions and more shelter deaths. Additionally, one of the greatest challenges that shelters face is the noise level in the dog kennel area, which is physically and physiologically hazardous for both animals and staff ...
