Epigenetic Dolomitization and the Origin of Xenotopic Dolomite Texture
SEPM Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1984ABSTRACT Xenotopic texture, which is commonly observed in pre-Cenozoic rocks, is defined here as a mosaic of anhedral crystals with irregular or curved intercrystalline boundaries and, usually, undulatory extinction. Xenotopic dolomite texture is similar in appearance to neomorphic limestone textures.

AAPG Bulletin, 1970Approximately 80% of the hydrocarbon reserves in carbonate rocks in North America are found in rock that is essentially pure dolomite. In many reservoirs the field limits are determined by the distribution of dolomite, because the dolomitization process is conducive to the production of a favorable reservoir rock.
